MCISD Athletics Code of Conduct 2022 - 2023

Mission CISD Extracurricular Code of Conduct

From:                     Mission CISD

Subject:                 Extracurricular Code of Conduct

Your child has expressed a desire to participate in an extracurricular activity at Mission CISD. It is the belief of our district that participation in extracurricular activities is an integral part of the total educational program. Mission CISD believes that extracurricular activities are an avenue in which today’s young athletes are guided in becoming productive and positive members of society. By stressing fair play, sportsmanship, self-discipline and teamwork, our programs will inevitably make our students understand the fact that hard work leads to success.

Participation in the regular curriculum is right afforded to each student; however participation in the extracurricular program is a privilege that carries additional expectations for acceptable conduct. Because participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege and not a right, MCISD is authorized to set higher standards for participants of these activities. While participating or attending any UIL sanctioned event it is imperative that we follow the Good Sportsmanship / Behavior Expectations Guidelines.

Everyone must understand that there are four things that are at the discretion of the Coach, as directed by UIL: playing time, play selection, team strategy, and other players. Every program has an open door policy because “Communication is Key”. It is imperative that the Chain of Command Procedure is followed to resolve any concern immediately: Coach – Player, Coach – Player – Parent, Coordinator – Parent, Principal – Parent, Athletic Director – Parent.

Mission CISD has established the following set of guidelines to be followed by all extracurricular participants:

  1. Abide by all the UIL rule specifications (for UIL / TEA sanctioned activities);
  2. Attend every required practice session and contest unless ill or in emergency situations: (Parent or guardian must call coach / sponsor if not attending practice);
  3. At ALL times, on and off campus, respond to every situation with proper behavior, respecting both themselves and others;
  4. Abide by the rules set forth by the Head Coach of the sport you choose to participate.

All students, regardless of activity must not:

  1. Use tobacco products;
  2. Consume, possess or distribute alcoholic beverages, drugs, or narcotics (except for prescribed medical purposes);
  3. Participate in inappropriate behavior recorded or transmitted on any electronic media or the internet;
  4. Participate in inappropriate behavior as outlined in the MCISD Student Code of Conduct.       This includes but is not limited to any conduct which contains the elements of an offense under the Texas Penal Code.

Students that violate any of the above may be suspended or removed from participation in any activity.
