Red Ribbon Week activities for October 2017

Red Ribbon Week recognition began after the kidnapping, torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena in 1985. Camarena had been working undercover in Guadalajara, Mexico for over four years. His efforts led to a tip that resulted in the discovery of a multi million dollar narcotics manufacturing operation in Chihuahua, Mexico. It is in memory of him that we have  Red Ribbon Week.  Join us in spreading the message.

Robo-Rangers @ HESTEC

We are very proud to announce that we are "Unlocking Dreams" here at Alton Memorial Jr. High. Yesterday we competed at the annual UTRGV - Hispanic Engineering, Science, and Technology (HESTEC) Robotics Day Competition at the Texas Southmost College Campus - Jacob Brown Auditorium in Brownsville, TX. We are excited to announce that our Alton Memorial Jr. High Green ROBO-RANGERS were crowned the 2016 HESTEC Robotics Day - "Grand Champions." This was another stellar performance and was four years in the making after a 2013 - Final Four finish, 2014 - 3rd Place Overall finish, and in 2015 - 3rd Place Overall finish.

Each year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) releases accountability ratings for schools and districts, as well as some additional honors that schools can earn called Distinctions.

Each year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) releases accountability ratings for schools and districts, as well as some additional honors that schools can earn called Distinctions.
Junior high schools can earn a total of 7 distinctions in: academic achievement in Reading/ELA, academic achievement in Math, academic achievement in Science, academic achievement in Social Studies, top 25% student progress, top 25% closing performance gaps, and postsecondary readiness.
Our school, AMJHS, received 4 distinctions.
